James "Jim" Werner Jr, PT

Jim grew up in a small dairy farming community in central Wisconsin, enjoying the outdoors, including hunting and fishing. He participated in many sports in high school. While attending junior college, he lettered in golf, tennis and basketball, and was named to the All State basketball team his sophomore year. His basketball coach sparked his interests in pursuing a degree in Physical Therapy. After 2 more years at the University of Wisconsin, he was accepted to the UHS/Chicago Medical School, graduating in 1986 with a B.S in PT.
Jim has worked in multiple clinics and hospitals throughout the country as a traveling P.T. and has over 15 years working with spinal dysfunctions. He has a special interest in a Manual P.T. approach in treatment of orthopedic dysfunction, incorporating STM, muscle energy techniques, NMR and DLS. He has attended over 30 courses in Manual P.T., including Osteopathic/MET and Functional Mobilization (FM) courses with the Institute of Physical Arts. He has been a Clinical Instructor of P.T. interns, including students from Germany. He has also attended physical therapy lectures and courses in Russia and China.
After working for 4 years is the lower 48, Jim came to Alaska in 1990 on a travel assignment and decided to call Alaska home, for a while anyway. He has been with Chugach Physical Therapy for 2 years. Jim continues to enjoy all the great outdoor activities Alaska has to offer, including fishing, hunting, hiking, golfing, biking, cross country skiing and running. (He has run several marathons over the years.)
